Wash and Care Tips for Human Hair Wigs
August 10, 2022
Human hair wigs need extra TLC. To ensure they always look their best, you must follow the care instructions provided by the manufacturer. In this post, let’s talk about the best way to wash and care for human hair wigs.
Best Ways to Wash Human Hair Wigs
Pre-Wash
Before you start washing your wig, you should prepare it for this process. To prep the wig, you need to comb the wig using a wide-tooth comb. This will untangle any tangle. When you comb the wig, you should start from the bottom and work your way up to the roots.
Rinse
This involves wetting the wig by placing it under the faucet. Submerge the wig in lukewarm water. For a long-haired wig, you should place it under a shower faucet. Doing so will prevent the strands from going down the drain. After rinsing the wig, get rid of the excess water with your hands before you shampoo it. When removing excess water, you should not wring the hair out.
Use Shampoo
You must only use a small amount of shampoo in your hands. Stroke the hair from roots to tips. But don’t let the shampoo get into the scalp of the wig. Don’t rub or scrub the wig. Doing so will only damage the strands.
What shampoo to use? Use only a clarifying shampoo for human hair wigs. It’s gentle to the hair. Rinse the shampoo by running cool water from the wig’s base down to the bottom. Use a towel to blot the air.

Apply Conditioner
You should also use a wig-approved hydrating conditioner. Use a small dab into the wig. Distribute the conditioner by combing through the strands using your fingers. Don’t let the conditioner come in contact with the wig’s base. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions on how long the conditioner stays in the wig. To rinse the conditioner, use cold water from the top of the hair down to the ends.
Dry the Wig
Leave the wig on the stand to air dry.
Don’t use a blow dryer.
You should only brush the hair if the lace is completely dry.
You can style the wig when it’s no longer wet.
That’s it. But you might wonder how often you wash your wig?
How Often to Wash Human Hair Wigs?
This is a personal choice but many women wash their wigs once every two weeks. If the wig feels sticky or dry, then it’s an indication it needs washing. And if it’s starting to lose its volume, it’s a sign you need to wash it. If you are wearing a wig cap under the wig, you should remove the wig before you go to bed. This reduces the times you need to wash the wig.
Always remember that when it comes to human hair wigs, you should be gentler to them. And to make sure that your human hair wigs last for months with proper care, you should purchase yours from a reputable source. The Best Wig Outlet has a lot of choices to offer. Visit the online shop here.
