How to Care for Your Human Hair Wigs After Every Use?
December 28, 2023

Your human hair wigs need TLC to achieve maximum lifespan. Although maintaining and washing them isn’t that complicated, it needs gentle care and attention. This guide will cover the proper way of washing, conditioning, and styling them to maintain them.
Human Hair Wigs: Keep Them Looking Their Best
Brushing and Detangling
After removing your wig, gently brush it using a wig brush or a wide-tooth comb. You may not be used to it but it will maintain the health and style of the wig. It may look like a simple switch but it can make a huge difference on your wigs as it prevents breakage.
When combing, make sure to start from the tips and work your way up towards the roots. Hold the wig at the base to provide support and minimize tension on the hair. Regular brushing helps prevent tangles and keeps the hair smooth and manageable.
Washing Your Wig
It is crucial to regularly clean them to maintain their freshness and shine. Depending on how often you wear your wig, washing your wig after every 8 to 12 wears is generally recommended. But don’t just wash them. Make sure to follow the steps below.
How to Properly Wash Wigs:
- Fill a basin with lukewarm water.
- Use a wig shampoo.
- Swish the wig gently in the water to distribute the shampoo.
- Soak it for a few minutes.
- Avoid rubbing it or agitating it excessively
- Rinse the wig with cool water.
- Ensure that the shampoo is thoroughly washed out.
- Pat the wig with a clean, soft towel to remove excess water.
- Do not wring or squeeze the wig. If you do, you are just damaging it.
Conditioning Your Wig
Apply a wig conditioner designed for wigs. You may also use leave-in conditioner on the hair to keep it soft and manageable. Leave-in conditioner is helpful in detangling the hair.
Drying
Lay your wig flat on a wig stand or a clean, dry towel. Do not expose the wig to direct sunlight or heat sources. The reason for this is that excessive heat can easily damage the hair. Allow the wig to air dry naturally. To obtain the best results, you should use a wig stand to help maintain its shape.
Styling
Once your wig is completely dry, style it as desired. It is okay to use heat styling tools on these wigs. But make sure that if you do so, you must apply a heat protectant spray first.
Storage
Knowing how to properly store the wig is crucial to maintaining the quality of your wig. When not in use, store it on a wig stand or in a clean, cool, and dry place. It must be stored away from direct sunlight and dust. Do not fold or squish the wig as this can distort its shape.
Avoiding Friction
Minimize friction on your wig by using a silk or satin wig cap. These materials are gentle on the hair and reduce the chances of tangling and breakage.
Caring for Your Wig
It is vital to care for your human hair wigs after every use. This is necessary to ensure their longevity and keep them looking their best. And if you wish to purchase high-quality wigs for any occasion, please browse our collection here. Also in Best Wig Outlet Blog
